Grants programs

DECC manages various grants programs under the banner of the NSW Environmental Trust. These programs fund projects that rehabilitate or regenerate the environment, or promote environmental education and sustainability. Please note that applications for 2009 grants programs open on 21 March 2009.

The programs are:

  • The urban sustainability program funds projects carried out by local councils in partnership with the community that protect and restore the urban environment
  • The lead environmental community groups program provides administrative funds for environmental organisations that work with their communities to conserve the environment
  • The environmental restoration and rehabilitation program funds projects that restore or rehabilitate degraded areas, or protect important ecosystems and habitats, prevent or minimise future environmental damage and enhance the quality of specific environmental resources
  • The environmental education program supports projects that increase commitment to protecting the environment and promoting sustainable behaviour
  • The environmental research program funds projects managed by educational institutions and government agencies that research local solutions to environmental problems and ways of operating that are less harmful to the environment
  • The eco schools program funds schools so they can involve their students and the community in developing and implementing environmental management projects
  • The protecting our places program supports projects that restore or rehabilitate Aboriginal land or land that is culturally significant to Aboriginal people, or that educate Aboriginal and other communities about the environment
  • The integrated environmental program provided grants in 2004 and 2007 for programs of up to 3 years duration which involved partnerships between local and state government, community and industry groups, environmental groups, universities and research organisations. It is anticipated that the next round of funding under this program will be in 2010/11
  • The NESB pesticides training program provided grants in 2004 to train market gardeners from non-English speaking backgrounds in the safe use of pesticides. This program is now complete.
